This Red White and Blue Dessert Board is the perfect appetizer and/or dessert to serve at your Fourth of July gathering this year.
So my birthday is coming up on July 4th and I wanted to make something to go with the theme of the day. I’m a firecracker baby so I give you a Red White and Blue Dessert Board.
This patriotic themed board is so simple to make. You can mix up an array of different foods to make it fit your tastes. I had so much fun putting this together. I sent a pic to my friend to show her what I was sharing the next day at our pool party and she loved it. It turned out to be the perfect size of nibbles for a day out at the pool. We kind of went in reverse and had this early on in the day and then grilled out later.
I love this board because it has some of my favorite things but also because it’s the perfect size for a small group. You can add more items to make it for a larger crowd too. Just get a bigger board or make two or three smaller size boards to have in different areas of your gathering space.
While the ingredients are some things I enjoy, you could easily mix it up and include other red, white or blue items. Below are some examples of other ingredients you could use to stick with the red, white and blue theme.
Popcorn
Blackberries (they do look somewhat dark blue)
Red licorice
Red and Blue skittles or M&Ms
Raspberries
Colored White chocolate dipped pretzel rods
Marshmallows
Apples
Pound cake
It is so hard coming up with blue dessert items. You basically have to put blue icing or white icing and sprinkles on it. You could also switch out the jam to a blueberry or blackberry jam to give the board another blue ingredient. I used angel food cake, no sugar Cool Whip and sugar free jam to try and cut down on calories.
If you’re getting together with friends and family or enjoying a day alone this Fourth of July, I hope you will make yourself this board and get in the spirit of the day.
