Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats

October 30, 2017 By denise Leave a Comment

Halloween never looked so cute! Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats are quick and tasty for your little goblins.

I’ve got a quick Halloween treat for you today. I’ve seen these all over the blogosphere but when I saw Big Bear’s Wife post them on Instagram, I remembered I wanted to make them for my coworkers. I always pin and make plans to make all these great treats I see on the internet and then life gets in the way. Well, this weekend was the perfect opportunity to make Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats.

At my old job we used to celebrate all the major holidays. For Halloween we would have Boo Buddies and a Halloween party with decorations and everyone would dress up in costumes every year. This job, yeah not so much. And I miss it. So when my boss told me we were having a little surprise Halloween party I was so excited. Any kind of party means I get to make cute treats for everyone whether they want them or not. But I’m guessing they will want these little monster treats.

These Frankenstein Rice Krispie Treats are too cute and are super simple to make. The base is just a traditional Rice Krispie treat recipe found on the cereal box. A little food coloring transforms them from drab to spooky. To make them look menacing like Frankenstein, I gave these treats some eyebrows but the screws just make them fun.  I wanted to use Tootsie Rolls for the screws but my store didn’t have them. They only came in a gimongous bag of a variety of candy and you know I can’t be trusted with that! I would eat all that candy before the party. So I opted for kisses which doesn’t look authentic but it’s tasty and cute so that’s all that matters.

I hope you enjoy Halloween however you celebrate it.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 1 - 10 oz bag marshmallows
  • 6 c Rice Krispie cereal
  • Green food coloring
  • Mint Chocolate chips (or plain semisweet chocolate chips)
  • Candy eyeballs
  • White chocolate wafers
  • Black food coloring
  • Chocolate kisses (or Tootsie Rolls)

Instructions

  • In a large soup pot, melt the butter over medium high heat. Once butter is melted, add in marshmallows and stir until melted. Remove from the heat and add in green food coloring until you reach your desired color. Add in cereal and stir to thoroughly mix together.
  • Place wax paper on a 9x12 cookie sheet. Spray with cooking spray. Spray your hands as well and pour out the cereal mixture. Pat down with your hands until evenly distributed. Let cool.
  • Cut treats into even number. (I liked to trim off the edges to get a clean edge - and eat the scraps.)
  • Melt the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in :30 second increments, stirring after each session. Dip the ends of the chocolate into one end of the treats and place back on the wax paper. Push eyes into the treats.
  • Place about 10 drops (or more) of black food coloring into a small bowl. Add a small amount of white chocolate wafers. Melt in the microwave in :30 second increments. Stir to mix coloring. Place black icing in a plastic baggie and snip a tiny piece off one corner.
  • Decorate by adding eyebrows, mouth and stitches. Place a dollop of icing on a kiss and place kiss screws on either side of bottom of face.
