Recently I had a breakfast meeting for work and we all had sausage gravy and biscuits as our meal. Sometime during breakfast we started talking about the gravy as they served it cold. And I mentioned that it was so easy to make I couldn’t believe I didn’t make it more often. Someone mentioned that not everyone knew how to make it so, of course, I knew I needed to make some and post the recipe. Gravy can seem intimidating but it really is easy to make.
This gravy over biscuits makes a great weekend breakfast or brunch item for the family. I like to serve it with fried potatoes and if I’m really hungry, some scrambled eggs. But they also make a great meal all by themselves. Country Sausage Gravy Ingredients: 1/2 lb pork sausage 4 Tbsp grease 4 Tbsp all purpose flour 2 cups milk Black pepper, to taste Instructions: In a large cast iron pan, slice half the sausage into four patties. Cook in the pan until cooked thoroughly. Once done, remove sausage patties and drain on a paper towel. Add remaining sausage and crumble in the pan. Cook until done. Remove from pan and set aside. The sausage drippings should amount to around 4 tablespoons of grease. Add flour to grease in pan and whisk together. Slowly add milk while whisking together. Let cook for a few minutes then add pepper to taste. Once sausage starts to thicken, add in cooked, crumbled sausage. Let cook until thickened slightly. Serve over biscuits. This gravy also works great (without the sausage) over chicken fried steak or mashed potatoes. {Be sure and follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to keep up with everything food!}
