Bacon, Chorizo and Cheese Popper Balls

November 12, 2015 By denise

On Thanksgiving day we have our family traditions. We wake up and put the parade on first thing. My mom and I start cooking and getting everything ready. Then we eat and watch the game. Somewhere in there a nap usually takes place.

But for the last few years my sister and her family usually spend the first part of the day with her in-laws. This year, I’m going to make some appetizers for my parents and myself because last year I about expired waiting to eat.

My refrigerator always, and I mean always, has Pillsbury™ crescent rolls in it. When I’m shopping at United Supermarkets, I always make a point to head to the refrigerated area to pick up a can or two.

I tried out making jalapeño poppers inside crescent rolls (and minus the jalapeños) to share with the family. After eating these, they are definitely the perfect appetizer for a family gathering.

Bacon, Chorizo and Cheese Popper Balls

Bacon, Chorizo and Cheese Popper Balls

Ingredients:

1 – 9 oz pkg Pork Chorizo OR
6 slices Bacon, cooked til crispy (or you can mix it up and do half and half)
8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
Green bell pepper
4 Mexican Cheese Blend, shredded
2 pkgs 8 ct Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
Optional: Bread crumbs

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Remove crescent rolls from package roll out. Pinch seams together. Cut dough into 16 equal pieces.

Place a small dollop of cream cheese in the middle of each piece of dough.

Top with either bacon or chorizo.

Add a small amount of bell pepper and cheese.

Pull two opposite end together then do the same with the other two sides. Roll the ball in your hands to seal the seams, or punch together.

Place on two baking sheets.

Bake for 10-12 minutes.

Optional: If you use half chorizo and half bacon, you can put bread crumbs on top to tell the difference.
