Ever since I was a little girl, Christmas has been my favorite holiday. It wasn’t because of the presents, it was because my entire family always got together on Christmas Eve to celebrate the holidays.
With my mom having thirteen brothers and sisters, this made for a big family get-together. No matter where we got together, our celebration consisted of pure joy from spending time together. The cousins were always running around having a blast and the adults were always laughing and telling stories.
For as long as I can remember, we always had traditional food to eat at our celebration – menudo, tamales, Barbacoa tacos – and we always prayed the rosary together. Afterwards everyone would form a line while we walked to my grandmother’s nativity scene where she held the baby Jesus. We would kiss his feet and get candy as a treat. For a kid, that was the reward. Hard, curly candy. Just seeing that candy in the stores brings a smile to my face and brings back some of the best memories.
Another thing I remember fondly is my Aunt Lola always trying to corral everyone together to sing Christmas carols. It would seem most people would remember words to some of the Christmas carols but not all of them. So this year to help out, I made a little Christmas Song Book for my family filled with some of my favorite Christmas songs. It’s a combo of songs in English and Spanish. I had to include De Colores and Las Mañanitas because my Aunt Lola always wants to sing these two songs but no one ever remembers all the words! And I included a couple of my favorite Luis Miguel songs that I downloaded so we can sing along to them. Ahem, because we can use all the help we can get.
It’s easy to put together:

Now that I am in full on mode for the holidays, I want everything around me to look and smell like the holidays. When I was at Walmart this past weekend, there was this display in the center aisle full of Glade® Winter Collection products. I immediately reached for the Cherish the Present™ collection because of that Cinnamon flavor. It makes me happy and the smell spreads warmth and joy throughout my house – reminding me of the holidays!
This year I’m planning on having a Hot Chocolate Bar for our holiday get-together and this candle will be perfect to set the mood for the Mexican Hot Chocolate I am serving. This Hot Chocolate Bar is easy to put together and gives everyone so many options for indulging in a little hot chocolate to ward off the chill in the weather. You can serve all your favorite toppings and add a few new ones. I even have the labels available here for you to download!
