Football season is my absolute favorite time of year. Yes, football has made its way into an actual season. It’s not just the game, it’s what it represents to me. In my home, I’ve always watched football with my dad. Watching our favorite team was always a sacred time and one we always looked forward to.

The start of the season is a big deal and we commemorate the beginning with great food. This year I anticipate going to more tailgate events so when planning what to make for the first game, I was looking for a slider I could make at home or for tailgating.

El Yucateca Collage

This El Yucateca Hot Sauce I picked up at Walmart is the perfect addition to kick up the flavor of traditional BBQ chicken sliders. The tangy sweetness of the barbecue sauce is paired with the spicy flavor of the hot sauce which has green habanero peppers, garlic, select spices and seasonings. Together they make the perfect sauce for these small bites and you get that little kick of habanero in the sauce. Depending on how spicy you like it, you can add barbecue sauce to the chicken once the chicken has come of the grill to make it just a little more spicy. Go ahead and make these at home or on the go for your next tailgate party.

Spicy BBQ Chicken Sliders

How would you add a little El Yucateca Hot Sauce to your next tailgate get together?

Spicy BBQ Chicken Sliders

Ingredients:

5 thin chicken breasts
Hawaiian sliders
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Butter flavored cooking spray

Sauce:
2/3 c light brown sugar
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp white vinegar
2/3 c ketchup
1 Tbsp yellow mustard
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp El Yucateca Green Hot Sauce
1 tbsp adobo sauce

Instructions:

Combine ingredients for barbecue sauce in a medium saucepan.

Cook over medium heat and whisk together ingredients.

Cook for 15 minutes, stirring constantly.

If chicken breasts are not equal size, place on wax paper, cover and pound until they are even thickness.

Cut chicken in half to make slider size pieces.

Prepare a baking sheet with foil and place chicken on foil.

Pour half the sauce on the chicken and let marinate for 30 minutes while you heat your grill. (Remember to spray grate with cooking spray.)

Once grill is ready, cook chicken until done.

Place sliders on grill to heat up and get grill marks.

Prepare sliders by adding lettuce and tomatoes.

Another option is to grill bell peppers and onions and add these to your sliders – Spicy BBQ Chicken Fajita Sliders!
