Today I’m doing a #ReadingFoodie book review for one of my favorite authors, Lisa Kleypas. I first started reading Lisa’s books when I picked up one of her historical romance novels. I’ve been a fan ever since and I have also become a fan of her contemporary romance novels.
I’ve read Lisa’s entire Travis book series and couldn’t wait for this book because I loved this family. What’s not to love. They’re bigger than Texas!
I loved Brown-Eyed Girl (affiliate link for Amazon) because this book was about Joe Travis, the youngest son in the series and in the previous books we hadn’t heard too much about him. This is his love story with wedding planner Avery Crosslin. In another life I would love to be a wedding planner so I always appreciate a story that features one. And photography is a passion of mine so throw that in for the hero of the book and I’m all over it.
Here’s the scoop from Amazon:
Wedding planner Avery Crosslin may be a rising star in Houston society, but she doesn’t believe in love-at least not for herself. When she meets wealthy bachelor Joe Travis and mistakes him for a wedding photographer, she has no intention of letting him sweep her off her feet. But Joe is a man who goes after what he wants, and Avery can’t resist the temptation of a sexy southern charmer and a hot summer evening.
After a one night stand, however, Avery is determined to keep it from happening again. A man like Joe can only mean trouble for a woman like her, and she can’t afford distractions. She’s been hired to plan the wedding of the year-a make-or-break event.
But complications start piling up fast, putting the wedding in jeopardy, especially when shocking secrets of the bride come to light. And as Joe makes it clear that he’s not going to give up easily, Avery is forced to confront the insecurities and beliefs that stem from a past she would do anything to forget.
The situation reaches a breaking point, and Avery faces the toughest choice of her life. Only by putting her career on the line and risking everything-including her well-guarded heart-will she find out what matters most.
Now that you know something about the book, let’s talk about this mini dessert. This recipe comes from a wedding reception/after-party that featured a pie bar. A pie bar people! That is like my dream. And the Glazed Peach Pie mentioned wasn’t one I had ever tried before so off I went to make it. It’s sweet and perfect for summer so hurry up and make it.
And If you haven’t read a Lisa Kleypas book yet, treat yourself to an easy read with a happy ending.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp Water
- Juice from 1/2 small lemon
- 5 medium peaches
- 1 refrigerated pie dough
Instructions:
Roll out pie dough. Place small mason jar lids on top and cut a circle about 1/2 inch larger than lid. With metal insert facing up, fit pie dough into ten lids. Using a fork, poke holes in the bottom of the lids. Bake according to package instructions (checking on the pies to ensure they don't burn). Once baked, let cool.
Peel 4 of the peaches and discard the pit. Purée the peaches in a blender.
In a small saucepan, add sugar, cornstarch, salt and nutmeg. Add in water and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat. Whisk to combine. Pour in puréed peaches. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly until mixture thickens.
Using a cookie scoop, pour peach mix into cooked pie shells.
Cut remaining peach into slices and place one on each pie. Refrigerate for at least three hours.
