Review – @chilantrobbq goodness

November 2, 2012 By denise Leave a Comment

20121024-142321.jpgI finally found my way to the Chi’lantro BBQ food truck. Their food is a blend of Korean and Mexican all rolled up together into deliciousness. After having watched amazing looking Korean food come through on the Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race, I have had this on my to do list – my food to do list.

The menu is a range of Burgers, Tacos, Quesadillas, Burritos, Fries and more. They even let you pick your own protein for your order.

I’m not a very adventurous girl when it comes to food but I’m working hard at going outside my box. This was outside my box. Like way outside my box. Clear in another hemisphere. But it had enough of what I’m used to, (read: burgers and fries) to make me comfortable in trying it.

Being the adventurous person I am, I ordered said burger and fries.

Korean Burger: Homemade buns, Bulgogi, grilled onion and cheese, soy vinaigrette salad, magic sauce, and an option of fried egg.

This Korean burger was so good. Even without the fried egg. The meat was tender and just had a burst of flavor to it. I’m glad the guy taking the orders talked me into keeping the onions. My first inclination is to always leave them out. But when he said they were grilled, I said sign me up.

The bun was nice and greasy. Just the way I like it and how I had them growing up and eating at a genuine dive. I’d eat that again.

I did only eat 1/3 of the burger. I gave the rest to my coworker and he devoured it. He also may have moaned a bit eating it.

Kimchi Fries: Caramelized Kimchi, a mound of sizzling Korean BBQ, chopped grilled onions, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, cilantro, magic sauce, sriracha and sesame seeds. All set on top of a pile of crispy French fries.

The Kimchi Fries were good but they may have scared me a little with everything piled on top of them.

People rave about these on twitter but I could not appreciate them because as I’ve alluded to, I’m a wimp, and they had so much spicy goodness on them.

Hi, my name is Denise. I’m Hispanic and I hate spicy foods.

What I did eat of them I loved. I just couldn’t bring myself to take a big ole bite with all that goodness imbued in the dish. And I wanted to eat them as is so bad because I’m always hearing about how great Kimchi fries are. Once again, my coworker devoured them. And then fell into a food coma.

Overall this food truck has amazing food. They were quick with the service and everything made it back to the office in pristine condition.

And these guys know how to do it – they don’t have a tip jar sitting on the counter. No. They ask you if you want to add on a tip before they ring you up. Who’s going to say no to their faces? I couldn’t.
