I can still remember watching the movie “Steel Magnolias” for the first time. It was the first time I remember crying inconsolably during a movie as well. When Shelby died and M’Lynn had her breakdown at the cemetery, my heart just broke. It breaks all over again just thinking about those two scenes.
Lifetime Television redid this iconic movie with an all African-American cast. For the most part, the casting was good. The two who did an exceptional job were Queen Latifah as M’Lynn and Jill Scott as Truvy.
Since that first time I’ve seen the movie, I’ve always wanted to make the Cuppa Cuppa Cuppa dessert.
“Oh hell, Clairee, you don’t need a recipe. It’s just a cup of flour, a cup of sugar and a cup of fruit cocktail with the juice. Stir and bake in a hot oven ‘til golden brown and bubbly. I serve it with ice cream to cut the sweetness.”
And with this new version of the movie out, I decided to give it a try. It tastes similar to a cobbler only sweeter. I used all of the fruit cocktail (about 1/2 c more) and I had to bake it for a while to achieve the bubbliness.
