When I first saw this Marlboro Man sandwich on The Pioneer Woman’s blog a while back I wasn’t sure I would try it. I love me some meat but that’s basically all it was. Then when I saw the revised PW version and I thought, ok now I can work with this.
I renamed it to “My Style” because I don’t do mushrooms and they seem to be a staple for PW. I also added more Worcestershire sauce as I went along as I knew the sauce would be a big part of the sandwich.
All in all this was a fabulous sandwich. I mean really good and it didn’t take long at all. I see this in my party menu rotation as sliders. Very heavy though so I served it with steamed squash and zucchini. Always a hit.
My Style Marlboro Man Sandwich (Recipe adapted from The Pioneer Woman)
Ingredients:
Butter
1 pound Cube Steak
Salt, pepper and garlic salt to taste
1/2 Yellow Onion, Sliced
1 Green Bell Peppers, Sliced
1 Red Bell Peppers, Sliced
1 cup Worcestershire Sauce
4 whole Deli Rolls
Havarti cheese, grated or sliced
Instructions:
Cut cube steak into strips against the grain. Season with salt, pepper and garlic salt. Set aside. Heat 2 pats of butter in a large skillet over high heat. Add bell peppers and onions. Cook until onions are translucent. Remove from heat and pan.
Add 2 pats of butter in same skillet. Once melted add sliced meat. Cook until browned on both sides. Add Worcestershire sauce and 1 tbsp of butter. Let simmer for 5 mins.
Add onions, green and red bell peppers to meat and cover for 5 more minutes.
Toast halved deli rolls in butter on a griddle or skillet until golden brown and crisp. Spoon meat/veggie mixture on the lower half of the bun, then spoon one or two tablespoons of pan sauce over the meat. Top with cheese and broil for a minute or two, until the cheese is melted.
Enjoy!
