Do you have a favorite holiday meal that you will eat whenever you see it on a menu? Mine is turkey and dressing. I will seek out church/school festivals to see who is having turkey and dressing dinners. Knowing that Thanksgiving is coming up put me in the mood for some cornbread dressing. I didn’t want to make a full out turkey dinner so I made a ham and dressing. I was looking for a new ham recipe so I googled some ideas and Paula Deen’s looked simple and delicious. It was on both counts.
Paula Deen’s Cola Basted Ham
Ingredients:
1 cured ham
2 (12-ounce) cans Coca-Cola
Canned pineapple rings
Brown sugar
Maraschino cherries
Cloves, whole
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Place the ham in a shallow roasting pan and sprinkle with brown sugar. Baste the ham with the cola. With toothpicks, stick some pineapple rings on the ham, about 4 or 5 rings. Sprinkle some brown sugar on the rings. With toothpicks, place a cherry in each pineapple ring hole and then stick some cloves in the rings. Cover it with foil. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes per pound of ham, or until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees F. Baste with cola about every 30 minutes during cooking.
