My family had a get-together for the kids on Halloween so, of course, I went online in search of cute treats to take to the party. They had to be kid-friendly and easy to make. I saw these two on several different sites and knew I had to make them.
The mummy dogs are basically crescent rolls cut into long strings wrapped around hotdogs. I used low-fat wieners (no one even noticed) and cut them in half. You bake according to package directions and then make the eyes with mustard. I was in such a hurry that I put the eyes on while they were still warm so they weren’t very vibrant. They were a hit and went fast.
The spiders are made with Oreos, licorice and sixlets. You cut the licorice to make the legs and stuff them in the Oreos. It is best to use the Double Stuffed Oreos to ensure enough room. Then you take a dab of royal icing and put the eyes on. And voilà — a cute Halloween treat.
Note: to make royal icing, combine 1/2 c confectioners sugar with 2 Tbsp of water.
Tori Spelling McDermott went on Twitter (@torianddean) on Halloween day with some homemade treats and I am posting the pics because they are too cute not to use at some point.
